Frank Harry Bushey was born on March 7, 1946, and was the only child of Mildred and Francis Bushey. He was born in Camden, NJ, and attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He graduated in 1964. Frank enjoyed church, bowling, baseball and all sports.

Bushey enlisted in the US Army on December 3, 1965, and attained the rank of Private (PVT).

On April 10, 1968, Bushey was killed in action in Vietnam.

Information provided by Mildred Bushey (mother) and NJVVMF

PRIVATE FRANK HARRY BUSHEY was born on March 7th, 1946 to Francis and Anna Bushey in Camden, New Jersey. His father is listed as a fireman in Camden's 1947 City Directory, however he was not a member of the Fire Department. The fireman designation more than likely indicates that he was a boiler operator. The family lived at 2740 River Road in the heart of Camden's Cramer Hill section. An only child, Frank Harry Bushey was a 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and was a member of the varsity baseball team.

Frank Bushey went into the Army in December of 1965. As a member of the Army, Private Bushey's MOS was 56A10, supply handler.

Private Bushey served our country for two years. He arrived in Vietnam on December 13, 1966. On April 10th, 1968, Private Bushey died on April 10, 1968 as a result of blood poisoning from non-combat related wounds received on April 7, at Binh Hoa, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. His body was recovered and returned to the United States. (dvrbs)

Philadelphia Inquirer - April 18, 1968

Army PFC Frank H. Bushey, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Bushey, of 2740 River Avenue, Camden. Pfc Bushey was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden. He entered the Army in December, 1965, and left for Vietnam a year later. During a leave to visit his parents last September, Pfc. Bushey sought a "compassionate reassignment" as an only child, but was refused.

He died April 10 of blood poisoning resulting from wounds received April 7. The telegram did not say how the wounds were incurred. The soldier had written his parents in his last letter that he was then serving as a guard in Saigon.

REMEMBRANCES from dvrbs

I KNEW FRANKIE FROM CRAMER HILL

You were younger, Frankie, but I knew you growing up in Cramer Hill; I was very sorry to hear of your death; its' Veteran's Day 2002, and I was thinking of you and the other boys that died who lived in Camden. You are in my prayers.

He graduated in '64 but I have that yearbook too.  His family lived a few blocks from me in the Cramer Hill section of town.  A really tragic story.  He was an only child and his parents were absolutely devastated by his death in Viet Nam.

..... you may be able to get some information about them from Hope Memorial Baptist Church. The church is located at 36th and Hayes.  The Busheys were very active in that church, particularly youth groups.  That is how I got to know them.  I lost touch with them after 1973 when I moved out of the area.

May 2009 - I was an Infantry Sgt in Vietnam when I heard Frank died, and I still remember what I thought at that time. How could anyone give Frank Bushey a helmet and a rifle and think he could be a soldier? He was such a nice person, he would rather been chasing butterflies. - Richard Drapczuk - RICHARDDRAPCZUK@aol.com

Remembering Frankie
I remember well the days at Veterans Memorial Jr. High and Woodrow Wilson High School with my friend Frankie. Those were some fun days, and then we both went into the Army, but you didn't come back. May the good Lord bless you and keep you in his arms.
Your friend Al.
