Sgt Robert N Carter

KIA – Robert Nel Carter – KIA Feb 9, 1968 – Hometown – Camden, NJ

In the Release Report of his death (Feb 1968), his next of kin is listed as Mrs. Clara Carter, 241 Royden St, Camden, NJ – 241 Royden Street no longer exists and to date we've been unable to find a relation. However, through internet searches, we've found Bob Nadolski, who was Roberts platoon leader. “Bob Carter was my platoon Sgt. He was the go-to guy when things had to be done. You could always count on him to do the right thing. He would have achieved a lot in life because of his attitude. Him, Rocco Pannicia and me were running the point during the 68 TET. There was an explosion and I was told later that it was a claymore set up on our flank. Rocco and I were wounded, Sgt Carter was killed….”  We found a phone listing for Bob in Illinois, and called him last week. Bob indicated that Parade Magazine did a story on their unit in 1968, just prior to the death of Sgt Carter. Bob sent in the photos above. We will be following up with a copy of the Parade article shortly. Nadolski is going to try and make it here for the Candlelight Services for Sgt Bob Carter. If we can find some of Sgt Carters family, and they wish to attend, they will bring the Candle up to the Wall during the services…perhaps with Bob Nadolski at their side…if we cant find any family, then Nadolski may bring the Candle up himself.....the Legions goal is to find a personal contact for each and every one of these fallen heroes - whether it be a family member, a friend, classmate or comrade...For more information on Robert Nel Carter, check out some of these links.  Vietnam Conflict Extract Data File , The Coffelt Database , Combat Area Casualties Current File .
