CHERRY BLOSSOM PATRIOTIC GRATITUDE Week in Cherry Hill..

On April 10, 2010, the Cherry Hill Fire Department planted 3 new cherry trees along Chapel Ave while members of the American Legion Post 372 set out to line the 2 mile Chapel Ave with flags as they do every year just before the cherry blossoms come out - Legion members that helped out were Ernie Brosh, Ed White, Sue Quinn-Morris, Joanie Calwell, Brian Fitzgerald, Rich Derer, Dave Hartzell, Paul Pollard, Tim Kraft, Deer Park Rehab Unit, Lynn, Alexis and Alex. Alongside members of the American Legion was Cherry Hill resident Joe Zanghi, who has been the towns advocate to keep this tradition alive and tries every year to get more town support. Joe was an intricale part of the Cherry Blossom Parade that used to be held on Chapel Ave back in the late 70's. He often reminisces about how wonderful it was and wishes our town could once again have that parade. So far, that wish has not come true. However, the American Legion and Cherry Hill Fire Department assured Joe, as they do every year, that they will keep the flagging of the Cherry Trees on their agendas and it will remain a tradition with their organizations. On April 18th, the annual Prayer was held in front of Joyce Kilmer School. As usual, the Cherry Hill Fire Department and American Legion Members (Ernie Brosh, Ed WHite, Shannon Spillane, Steve Spillane, Sean Cook, Sue Quinn-Morris, Chester Malik, and a few others) were present - along with Joe Zanghi, ex Mayor Rocco and also a few special guests this year that included members of the Cherry Hill Town Council and a representative from the Honor & Remember Flag that came out to educate everyone about the meaning of their flag, which they are currently trying to make a national flag. George Lutz, their founder, will be starting his Honor and Remember Across America Tour in June - our American Legion in Cherry Hill will be his first stop. Come out for it if you can - it will be held June 9th at 7pm at the Legion in Cherry Hill. Click here to see flyer. . Much to Joe's surprise and pleasure, the tradition seemed to get quite a bit of media coverage this year - with the newspaper and even an interview with Joe on TV.
