COMMANDERS MESSAGE (Jan - March 2010)

I hope that everyone had a great holiday season and that Santa was generous to you and your family. 2009 was a very successful year for Post 372. While our biggest undertaking was bringing the Vietnam Traveling Wall to our Post, the year was filled with more events such as Welcome Homes for returning military soldiers, Award Ceremonies, Memorial Day Ceremonies, Locustwood Flagging, Statewide Services, Wildwood Convention, our Annual Yard/Bake Sale, Easter Egg Hunt, Kids Xmas Party, Hoagie Sales, 4th of July celebrations and parade, 9/11 Services, Chapel Ave Patriotic Week, and Family Day—and much more.
We look forward to another year filled with events dedicated to our veterans, active military and their families. Please take the time to check our website and the bulletin board in the Canteen for upcoming events. Sometimes things come up at the last minute, so you have to be diligent in checking the website and the bulletin board. Our website address is www.alch372.com.
The Post also continued to make many charitable donations to needy causes as well as awarding scholarships to ROTC graduates of Cherry Hill West High School, and scholarships to graduating members of our Legion Baseball team.
The most important things we do is supporting our troops that are fighting for our country. Please say a prayer for all of these gallant men and women who did not have the opportunity to be with their loved ones through the holidays. Also, let us not forget the veterans who fought for us in the past and always be proud of the fact “that you served your country”.
May 2010 be prosperous, healthy and successful for us all.

For God and Country,
Charles Macukewicz
Commander

Senior VICE COMMANDERS MESSAGE (Oct - Dec 2009)

Time certainly does go by quickly. It seems only yesterday, we “hosted” the Vietnam Wall. The event brought many dignitaries and visitors to our Post. The participation and camaraderie of fellow veterans from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard was impressive. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jewish War Veterans, American Legion and AMVETS came together as one, committed to the mantra that never again will one generation of veterans abandon another. Although each veteran’s organization has different criteria for membership, we share a common bond and commitment to God and Country. We all should join at least one veteran’s organization. Numbers are important to politicians. They appropriate funds based upon numbers and when the collective voice of three million American Legionnaires or ten million veterans speaks, I can assure you, they will listen. As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall”.
Speaking of fall….It is here and now is the beginning of a special time of the year. On November 3, we have the opportunity to vote in a free society for the people or party of our choice. On Veteran’s Day, November 11, we get to honor those who fought and died to give each of us our freedom and inalienable right to vote. Thanksgiving Day speaks for itself. I have been to over a dozen different countries and I am thankful to be here in the land that I love. Let us never forget December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor …“a day that will live in infamy”. Christmas and New Years will be here before we know it and with that in mind, let me be the first to wish each one of you a Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous and Happy New year. Let us pray for the safe return of our troops and remember, “What the Caterpillar perceives is the end, to the Butterfly it is only the beginning.”

For God and Country, Ernest G. Brosh, Senior Vice Commander

COMMANDERS MESSAGE (July - September 2009)

Post 372 has just finished its most busiest three months of the year. As most of you are aware, Post 372 hosted the Vietnam ―Wall That Heals‖ in mid April. During the four days that the Wall was here we had a total visitation of over 5,000 people. There will be more details on the ―Wall‖ within this publication.

As usual we placed over 2,000 flags on veteran’s graves at Locustwood Cemetery prior to Memorial Day. On Memorial Day the Post held ceremonies here and at Locustwood Cemetery. I would like to state that with a total membership (Legion, Auxiliary, SALS) close to 700 members, the attendance at these ceremonies was extremely poor. I hope that next year our membership will be more responsive in order to honor our veterans that fought for this country. We participated at the Memorial Day services of the Township. My special thanks go out to our Honor Guard and Firing Squad who participated at all of these events.

On June 7th the Annual Statewide Legion Memorial Services were held at Locustwood Cemetery. After the services we entertained well over one hundred statewide Legion members with refreshments. Our thanks to Dave Larsen who acted as head chef for this occasion.

In closing I would like to advise all our members that we are a very healthy and active Post. We are a credit to the American Legion and we stand tall and proud.

Please say a prayer for all of our veterans who have gone to ―the last command‖, as well as those who are suffering from disabilities related to their service for our coun-try.

For God and Country,

Charles Macukewicz Commander
