COMMANDERS MESSAGE March/April 2006
I always look
forward to facing challenges of leading this great Post 372 into the
future.
I'll be
running again this year for Post Commander. The only promise I make at
this time is that I will dedicate my untiring efforts to furthering
the aims and goals of our American Legion.
We do have an
up and coming new Commander for next year, Vice Commander Ernest G.
Brosh, and I am holding him to it!
Nomination of
Officers will take place in March for all of us at our General
Membership, Ladies Auxiliary and SALs meetings (See dates). Let us all
try nominating the right person for long term benefits for the good of
our Post and the American Legion.
Most
importantly, we must be committed to membership growth and
development. The recruiting and retaining a large membership base
cannot be over-emphasized. Many people still do not understand what
the American Legion is all about. The Preamble of the American Legion
Constitution admonishes us to preserve the memories and incidents of
our association in the great Wars. When the document was drafted in
1919 there was only one Great War, World War I. The next 87 years gave
us more wars. As members of the largest Veteran Organization in the
country, we must take the lead and show unity and strength when
dealing with matters of patriotism. This is not just for General
Members; this is good for all of us.
I am very
happy to see that the Commander of the Sons of the American Legion is
running again. My deep appreciation goes to all the Officers and
Members for a great job they did for the Post in 2005. I am also
looking forward to our Ladies Auxiliary Officers running again this
year, since they did a great job last year as well.
Let us all
show our pride with enthusiastic Legion attitude and with abundance of
the American Legion spirit.
For God and Country,
Respectfully,
Tom Goldy Sr.
