The true value of joining The American
Legion can?t be measured in dollars and cents. It is a unique
way of being a part of something bigger than any individual.
Membership Eligibility
If you are on active duty today, serving
honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during
any eligible war eras, become a member of The American Legion!
We're veterans just like you, nearly 3
million strong, who care about America, veterans and their
families and our nation's youth. The Legion is a powerful voice in
Washington dedicated to preserving the rights we've all earned -
and were promised - by service to our nation in uniform.
We invite you to join us now. Membership
brings an impressive array of benefits. The American Legion is
always there for you and your family - in Washington and nearly
15,000 local posts throughout America and abroad. Just like you,
we're "Still Serving America!"
In order to be
eligible for membership into the American Legion, you must have
served any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces during any of the dates
listed below. . .
April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946
June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955
February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975
August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984
December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990
August 2, 1990 to today

SAL's
MEMBER REQUIREMENTS - $20 annual fee
To be eligible, you must be a male descendant (includes stepsons
and adopted sons) of a member of The American Legion. You would
also be eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion if you
are the male descendant (stepsons and adopted sons included) of
a veteran who died in service during World War I, World War II,
the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or
the Persian Gulf War (see specific time periods for service
during these conflicts).
You would also be eligible to join the Sons of The American
Legion if you are the male descendant (stepsons and adopted sons
included) of a veteran who died subsequent to his or her
honorable discharge from service in World War I, World War II,
the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or
the Persian Gulf War (the same eligibility periods apply as
above)

LADIES
AUXILIARY MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS - $15 annual fee
Women who are elegible for membership fall into one of the
following catagories:
1> The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters, great
granddaughters, and grandmothers of members of the American
Legion.
2> The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters, great
granddaughters, and grandmothers of those who served in the armed
forces of the United States during any of the eligibility periods
listed above and who died in the line of duty during such service,
or who, having received an Honorable Discharge, died after such
service.
3> The mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, granddaughters, great
granddaughters, and grandmothers of those who were citizens of the
United Stated and who served during any of the eligibility periods
listed above in the Armed Forces of any of the governments who
were allies of the United States and who died in the line of duty
during such service, or who, having received an Honorable
Discharge, died after such service.
4> Women who are eligible for membership in the American Legion in
their own right.
