The Year in Review...

The year 2004 started out slow around Post 372, but--with Tom O'Reilly's help we managed to keep the fires burning brightly. After we got over the loss of our beloved Eagles in the playoffs, things started to pick up in March at our St. Patrick's Day Celebration. Everyone had a happy time and we raised money for the disabled vets and other charities that we help throughout the year.

As April rolled around we elected new officers and a chaplain. Our new offices included Tom Wright as Sgt. at Arms, Buster Escott as Adjutant, Ted Verlander as Chaplain and myself as Historian. At the end of the month, there was a dignified swearing-in ceremony for the Legionnaires, Sons and Ladies Auxiliary. All ceremonies were very professional.

When May and a warm springtime arrived we celebrated Memorial Day for what seemed like the whole month. There was the flagging of the veteran's graves at Locustwood Cemetery, our vets had their annual ceremony at the cemetery and our Post sent the color guard to the township building for its traditional ceremony. On Memorial Day itself, the State of New Jersey's American Legion held its annual ceremony at Locustwood. Post #372 had a large turnout as the host Post and afterwards everyone in attendance was invited back to Post #372 for hearty food and refreshments.

June came next and with June comes the Wildwood Convention. This was my first convention in Wildwood and let me tell you, it is really a great time! On top of everything, Squadron #372 won a plaque for most new members in the entire state. We were also well represented in the state parade with our color guard led by SAL Commander Brian Fitzgerald and our Harley riders, Robert and Jim Arcenese along with their wives, Donna and Debbie and Ron Flynn and Mrs. Goldy! Everybody that joined in had a festive time and for anyone who has never attended the Convention, it is highly recommended that you do so, it's a lot of fun!

As July started out, our color guard was invited to march in the Cherry Hill Independence Day parade. We would like to thank general member and Post Service Office, Bill Conneby for hanging in for the whole  parade route along with the Sons' color guard and biker guys and gals that participated. The next day, July 4th, Post 372 had its annual celebration and all in attendance had a great afternoon.

With the arrival of fall, one of the dates that many folks look forward to is Family Day in September. We had a strong turnout this year with lots of food and fun. When the leaves started to turn, we held our annual wood cutting party with lots of special help form Carol, Patti and Maryellen. We could not have done it without their help. Thank You! Later in October, we threw an awesome Halloween Party. Everyone had a good and scary time.

In November, the general members celebrated Veterans Day and Post 372's birthday with a warm and friendly Open House. All members were invited and everyone enjoyed the balmy day.

On December 7, a small party of Sons and general members attended ceremonies aboard the USS New Jersey for the Pearl Harbor Commemoration. A few days later, we had our annual Holiday Party. As usual, it was a very special and memorable event.

On behalf of our Squadron, I would like to thank Commander Goldy and all the General Members for assisting our Squadron and allowing you gentlemen to keep Post 372 the best Post in South Jersey. We do know why we are here....

Respectfully,

Fran Keashen, S.A.L.
Historian
