GOLDY FOREVER

'Say not in grief 'he is no more' but live in thankfulness that he was'
Charles Alberti

He labored hard for those he loved, his Post, his Legion, God and Country. He has joined beloved wife Darlene, our Supreme Commander and fellow soldiers who gave their all. Until we meet at that final assembly, the last for which the first was planned, fare thee well dear friend and comrade, fare thee well.
Ernest G. Brosh - Vice Commander

Wonderful memories woven in gold,
This is a picture I tenderly hold,
Deep in my heart, a memory is kept,
One never to forget.
SAL Commander Brian Fitzgerald

“Goldy Forever” we joked often, especially around election time at the Post Bar. We even wanted to print up bumper stickers with the phrase emblazoned, but Tom would have none of that. He would just smile impishly and shrugged his shoulders, “just so much humma, humma” he’d say. Well, the Lord above finally decided there wouldn’t be any “Goldy Forever” bumper stickers or anything else along that line and His word was final. At Post #372, we have lost a natural leader, one who had a strong command of the membership, especially the E-Board, as none before him in my eleven year friendship and memory. These qualities are hard to come by these days and will no doubt impact on the future of the Post in the days to come. “So Long Comrade…”It was fun while it lasted!
Don McDonough
Vice Commander

When ties of love are broken,
And loved ones have to part,
It leaves a wound that never heals,
In ever-aching heart.
Vice Commander Al Walker & Mary Walker

Together in the same old way,
Would be my dearest wish today.
Glen "Bill" Coneby - Service Officer

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His loving breast.

We will miss our Commander but he is in a better world reunited with his lovely wife. May his family find comfort through this difficult time.

Sadly missed along life's way,
Quietly remembered every day,
No longer in our life to share,
But in our hearts he's always there.

Tom I will never forget how you loved your Post. Also the nice greeting you gave to me and my son when we came in. You gave your all to Post 372!

PS: How was that dog treat?
Over the 37 years of friendship with Tom (Commander Goldy,) and Darlene, I found they always carried their righteousness in their heart. Albeit tending to people in distress or feeling the hurt and pain of our fellow servicemen, to help in any way possible through our American Legion Post 372. Years ago unwittingly one day Tommy commented to me, “Carl, you must have been one hell of a sailor,” whereupon he slapped me on the back (his usual) and added “Don’t let it go to your head,” finished by his normal jovial laugh. First I thought it was an insult, realizing to the contrary, his compliment. Goldy, this one is for you and our fellow Veterans, God Bless.
For God and Country.

OUR SON
Mine was but a simple boy, as he sailed across the sea
With uniform so strong and proud
It’s what he wanted to be.
Defender, martyr, Man of God
Twas what he became of me.
Spit shined boots and courage to dare
To serve this our own country.
From a sun struck butte above the clouds
In this his State of New Jersey.
He smiles down on all around us
With his angel hence he now to see.
“mine eyes have seen the Glory of the coming of the Lord”
And in his arms………..I pray he be.
Our Son

A CARING HERO...
Re: "Care situation with family feel," Oct 30th
With all the stories about wars, violence and mud-slinging campaigns, it was a real treat to read about Tom Goldy and how he cares for Bobby Dickinson as part of the Adult Family Care program in New Jersey.
I cried my way through the article. It was so very touching, and it's clear that both men are helping to fill a void in each other's life in different ways. Goldy served his country for years, and at a time in his life when most people are thinking of taking it easy, he continues to serve his community. As the parent of a son with autism, I can only hope that there is someone like Goldy around should my son ever need someone to take care of him after I am gone.
Tom Goldy, you are a true hero.
