In an ironic twist, the hoopla Thursday
evening was all about them. The
Warriors' Watch Riders usual gig is to give our returning soldiers a
homecoming they well deserve, in a total “rock star” fashion- motorcycles
roaring, horns tooting, flags waving, people clapping and cheering the
soldier home.
While there was no Welcome Home celebration last night, there was a
celebration honoring the remarkable work this selfless group has done since
their founding in May 2008. Their founding principle is simple; “They have
our backs over there, we have their backs here at home.” They envision a day
when every member of the United States Armed Forces, at home and abroad, and
their families, feel appreciated, honored, respected and loved by the
citizen they risk their lives to protect. And that’s exactly what they do
for our soldiers.
Friends from such organizations as the Nam Knights (a Veteran & Law
Enforcement MC), the American Legion Post 372, Legion Riders, the Yellow
Ribbon Club, A Heroes Welcome and other local military/veteran organizations
gathered at the American Legion in Cherry Hill Thursday evening at 6:30pm to
show the Warriors Watch just how much they appreciate what their group does
for our veterans. The evening included a Proclamation from Cherry Hill
Township Council, personal thank yous from various groups, including a
soldier, Leo Brown, who was welcomed home by the Warriors' Watch this past
year. Additionally, they were presented with the Camden County Outstanding
Achievement Award by Col Bancroft, Director of Military Affairs Camden
County, NJ. There was even a surprise visit from Santa (aka Smooth) who came
bearing gifts of funds for Warriors Watch Coins. The Ceremony was followed
with a buffet and showing of various Warriors Watch
Welcome Home Videos radiating from the large TV screen - just above
the 9ft x 4ft Photo Mural of various Warriors Watch Welcome Homes.
