It is with deep sadness, we share the news of the loss of a beloved member of our American Legion Post 372, Chester Malik. As a dedicated Army Veteran and long-standing member of the American Legion Post 372, Chester's contributions as our Post Chaplain for many years and his unwavering commitment to supporting fellow veterans and veterans organizations were truly invaluable. RIP Chet. Funeral will be Friday, November 7, 2025 - viewing Friday 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 1010 Liberty Street, Camden, NJ followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Chester Malik Death Notice
Chester “Chet”, age 95 of Cherry Hill, on November 2, 2025. Chester was born at home in Camden, New Jersey. He is the son of the late Joseph and Kazmiera (nee Lopachinska), who were both born in Poland. Beloved husband to the late Jane L (nee Muczyk). Loving father of Maria DeTore of Douglassville, PA, the late Christine E. Gritt and the late Edward D. Malik. Devoted grandfather of Kyle, Allie, Nicholas, John, and Nadine. Beloved brother of the late Pearl, Helen, Alfred and Joseph. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Chester attended Saint Joseph’s grammar school and graduated from Camden County vocational school as an auto mechanic in 1947. He worked at various Pontiac dealerships until he retired in 1995. Chester worked for Burns Pontiac, Buick, GM, Hyundai, Cadillac, and Honda in many positions. He was an auto mechanic, worked in the parts department, the body shop, and was the first new car lot manager.
Chester also was a driver of both owners; Edward Burns and Richard Cole. Having often swapped new cars for the company all over the country. He worked for the Burns organization for 30 years.
Chester enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 he obtained the rank of S/SGT staff sergeant and later enlisted in the Army National Guard 1st of the 112th field artillery from 1974 to 1990 during the Vietnam war, Chester retired from the army with the rank of SFC Sergeant first class. Chet was recalled back to active duty in the army for Desert Storm in 1991. Where he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma during the first Gulf War.
Chester served in many organizations, acting as one of the original founders of the Camden Light Artillery and a former adjutant. He was the Chaplin of American Legion Post 372 for many years and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6760. Chester also served his church as a Eucharistic minister, where he also worked in the bingo hall for over 40 years.
When the battleship NJBB62 was brought to Camden as a museum he became a docent (tour guide). Chet enjoyed taking people on the ship and explaining the history of the most decorated ship in the US Navy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 1010 Liberty Street, Camden, NJ followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
