Honoring Cpt Greg Dalessio – 5k Run 17th Year
American Legion Cherry Hill NJ Post 372

Over the last several days, for the 17th year, some of our Legion members honored and remembered the sacrifices of our local Cherry Hill Cpt Greg Dalessio. He was killed in action in Iraq in 2008. Since his death, his family has held an annual 5K Run/Walk in his old neighborhood, just down the street from our Legion.
A handful of our volunteers, who have been aiding in this honor mission since his death, gathered Wednesday and Thursday to flag the 5K run, by placing flags apporx 10 ft apart along the 5K route, along with big flags on the turn corners.
The 5K Memorial Run took place Saturday, and kicked off at 8am. We provided bananas and oranges for the runners as they finished up the race. Approx 200 runners came out to honor Greg, despite the chilly temps!
After the race, some members of the Dalessio family brought back the flags, and we went through them, bundled them up and put back in storage for next years run. Lest we forget. Prior to the run, we cleaned out/organized the flag room – 4 big bags of retired flags were taken to Harleigh for final retirement. Thank you Dave and Joanie and Sue, and Mike for helping with bundling the flags
